Immediate cause of the revolt of 1857


THE REVOLT OF 1857

In 1856, the enfield rifles were issued by the British government. The catridges of rifles were prepared from fatty substances. A soldier was trained to tear of  the cartridge with his teeth and load the bullet in the rifles. When the soldier know about catridges they refused to use those rifles . This revolt increased rapidly after the death of Mangal Pandey. The 85 soldiers of meerut were put behind bars by the Britishers. They broke the prison .Later, they oppointed bahadur shah zafar II as the emperor of delhi.
